J Special: Programmer of the Year is a section that designates a person in the film field who is active in the culture and arts sector as a programmer and presents films that suit their own cinematic perspectives and tastes to audience. It opened its first door at the 22nd JEONJU IFF. Actor Ryu Hyunkyung being the first "Programmer of the Year" followed by director Yeon Sang-ho last year, contributed to establishing the section to be what is now a representative section of the JEONJU IFF.

The filmmaker taking charge of the "J Special: Programmer of the Year" section, which marks its third anniversary this year, is actor Bek Hyunjin, who is active in various fields, being an actor, director, musician, and artist. Starting with the film Flower Island (2001), he has presented himself to the audience through films such as Popee (2002), The Day He Arrives (2011), Eungyo (2012), Gyeongju (2014), The Exclusive : Beat the Devil’s Tattoo (2015), Keys To The Heart (2017), SAMJIN COMPANY ENGLISH CLASS (2019), and The Policeman’s Lineage (2022). He has also made appearances in series such as Tomorrow, With You, My Fellow Citizens!, Taxi Driver, The Devil Judge, Happiness, Gaus Electronics, and has demonstrated his solid and unique acting.

Bek Hyunjin, also a musician and painter, has been active as a member of the band Bahngbek and Uhuhboo Project since his debut with the Uhuhboo Project studio album Son Ik Boon Gi Jeom in 1997. He also held solo exhibitions Beyond Words (2021), and Public Hiding: Public Memory and Shared Bonds (2021) as the winner of Artist of the Year, 2017 of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.

Programmer Bek Hyunjin's J Special: Programmer of the Year selection is a total of seven feature and short films. Programmer Bek Hyunjin says, "Luis Buñuel is a particularly unique figure even among the artists I have interest in. I especially enjoy Luis Buñuel's trilogy, which I selected to screen, as it is a very interesting piece of work. I thought it would be exciting to watch the film alongside other people at the theater", explaining his thoughts behind the selection of Luis Buñuel's trilogy.

In addition, programmer Bek Hyunjin will also act as a moderator for the J Special Class with guests immediately following the screening of J Special: Programmer of the Year in theaters.
